Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.
In order to ensure your complete privacy, I do not participate in most managed care panels. When you see a therapist through a managed care panel, information from your sessions with your therapist must be shared with a case manager and others who work for the insurance company. Once this information leaves my office, I have no control over who might see this information. The case manager, who has never met you, and may have far less training than a Ph.D. in clinical psychology will determine if you need treatment and how much treatment you are allowed to have. I resigned from most insurance panels because I do not endorse these practices and cannot provide clients with the best, most confidential treatment under these constraints.
